Racing Wind and Gentle Breezes - St. Marys, Georgia
June 21, 2008
The Harrington Residence in St. Marys, Georgia.
This one-of-a-kind luxury home is laid out on a point lot, along the St. Marys River, with panoramic views of the river and marsh on three sides. This four story classic home, designed by renowned architect John Cotner, takes full advantage of its natural setting.
It’s owned by a high-tech venture capitalist who loves sports cars and racing. When he and his family left the hectic big city lifestyle and built this Low Country Charleston retreat, he made sure to include a special room for his passion, an M-5, V-10, 503 horsepower BMW.
Mixing Old and New
The home gets its distinct feel from a unique blend of old history and tradition and new flair. The first thing you’ll notice is the welcoming front door. It’s an antique wood-paneled door which originally was the entrance door to an old hotel. Once inside, you’ll immediately notice the warm, cozy feeling flowing through the open space. The mix of woods throughout the home - from the wide-plank, knotty Australian cypress wood floors to the hand- distressed heart pine doors - create a rustic ambiance of a home made to live in. The line between indoor and outdoor porches is almost unobstructed. No matter where you are, you’ll always aware of the vast, open landscape surrounding the residence.
Let’s Gather Around
This home was built for entertaining and socializing with friends and family, and the kitchen is the command center of the entire house. The modern kitchen is both practical and beautiful. The distinctively colored stained glass pantry door is another reclaimed treasure that adds to the design. The kitchen is the hub in the center of the home, yet its connected across the living room to the library and social graces of the veranda. On the other side of the kitchen, is the semi-formal, but sizable dining room. It creates a perfect backdrop for a black tie dinner party. The large screened porch can also easily be accessed from the kitchen. Open the door, and the kitchen and the outside are instantly connected. The fireplace outside was built with salvaged bricks from an old plantation and you can imagine how nice it must be to relax here at night and watch the moonlight over St. Marys river.
A Bedroom for Everyone
In total there are three bedrooms, each with its complete private full bathroom. All are located on the third level, which can be ascended by the stair case or with the house elevator. The penthouse is located on the fourth level.
The master bedroom will also receive high approval. It is privately located in the back rear corner of the house with a panoramic view of two rivers. The French doors swing open to expose the gentile southern breezes from yet another porch. It’s the perfect place to sit down and watch the sunset, or maybe have your morning coffee. The bath area is as good as it gets—complete with “his and hers” area, neutral colored traversing stone walls and floor and spa-like style bins for towels. Romantic couples will be encouraged to join each other in this spacious shower. A mural painted by a prominent local artist depicts the calm coastal landscape and adds a unique sense of style.
The Penthouse Peeks Interest
The penthouse level is on the fourth floor. This is a tranquil and quiet space, separated from the rest of the house. It’s the perfect place to retreat to when you want solitude. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the submarines as they enter and leave Kings Bay Sub Base. It’s not really a penthouse. It’s currently used as a recreation room, a home theater, a private office all in one, but it is certainly spacious enough to be used as anything you’d like. Here you can make your own private hideaway. This is your opportunity to let your imagination and creativity shine!

Marshfront Home with Amazing View of Florida Bluffs
June 11, 2008
Can you imagine how you would build a new home if money were not an issue? Well, that’s exactly what Bill and Joyce Lenz did, they built a house that contains lots of artistic design essentials. Not a dime was spared nor a corner cut on the quality of this home. Bill, a real mans man, who loves hunting and fishing needed a place to store his boat and gear so he enlarged the garage, installed an extra wide stairwell to the second level to house his fishing and hunting equipment and a third bay to accommodate the boat. This area could be a media room upstairs, a studio, or a gym, and an ideal place for kids to play on a rainy day.
Your curiosity is aroused as you approach the magnificent leaded glass and solid mahogany doors of the front entrance. “Oh-my-gosh” the Foyer the view of the marsh and the White cliffs of Florida leave you speechless. [Read more]
